CHICAGO (CBS) -- A day after Mayor Brandon Johnson announced his entire hand-picked school board would resign, about three dozen members of the City Council blasted the recent developments in an open letter.

Later, at Benito Juarez High School, the support of teachers, counselors and community members led me to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where I fully realized how education could transform my life.

The entire Chicago Board of Education – all seven members – is stepping down later this month, as the mayor continues to be at odds with Chicago Public Schools CEO Pedro Martinez, who he wants removed from office.
