Colombia’s Ecopetrol SA discovered an offshore natural gas deposit that could potentially produce up to 800 million cubic feet of gas a day, according to Chief Executive Officer Ricardo Roa.

The finds by Petrobras in the Guajira Offshore Basin are estimated to hold around six trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas in place.

Petrobras in 2022 found a large gas accumulation with the Uchuva-1 exploration well in the Tayrona block in the Guajira Offshore basin, and a couple of months ago the company said the Uchiva-2 appraisal well reinforced the volumetric potential of the play.

Ecopetrol discovered an offshore gas deposit that could potentially produce up to 800 million cubic feet a day.

Ecopetrol (NYSE:EC) said Thursday it discovered an offshore natural gas deposit that could potentially produce as much as 800M cf/day of gas, which could meet 80% of Colombia's current demand and help the country remain self-sufficient for energy.
