Doherty, also famous for her roles in Charmed and Beverly Hills 90210, died of breast cancer in July after being diagnosed with the disease in 2015.

The 1995 buddy comedy Mallrats has gone on to achieve cult status among fans for its unconventional way of approaching comedy. As such, admirers of the entertainment classic have been gunning for a sequel ever since.
