Golf’s most watchable contest of late has been away from the course: the boardroom tussle between the executives from the two tours. After a period of enmity, they announced in mid-2023 that their organisations would join up.

At this week’s Dunhill Links, which features both PGA Tour and LIV Golf stars, Rory McIlroy hinted at when pro golf may come back together.

Richard Beard, President and CEO of the Greensboro Sports Foundation, said LIV Golf did not reach out to him or the foundation. However, he said he would not be surprised if the tour was interested in coming to Greensboro, given the strong sports tourism in the city and events it has hosted recently.

In recent weeks, there has been a lot of discussion about Rory McIlroy's future, especially after he softened his stance on LIV Golf. The Northern Irish golfer, once a staunch opponent of this tour, seems to be reconsidering his position due to some underlying influences.

Despite being paired at the Dunhill Links, Jay Monahan and Yasir al-Rumayyan will not discuss the pending deal on the course, per the pros.

"There's no better place than the home of golf to try and get everyone together and talking," McIlroy told BBC Northern Ireland. "I think it's a great thing and good sign that Jay and Yasir are going to play together.
