UPDATE: NOAA adjusts timing for seeing the northern lights

After another significant solar flare early Thursday, NOAA has made some adjustments to timing what could be a busy next few nights for aurora potential. It now appears unlikely WNY will have anything to see Thursday night.

NOAA predicts vibrant northern lights as far south as Nebraska

The spectacle hinges on the CME's actual arrival time. If it impacts Earth during the day for the United States, then the northern lights would be views from other countries like Russia, Norway, Switzerland, etc. If it arrives while it is dark here, we should have a great chance to view the display in the northern U.S.

UPDATE: Multiple chances for the Northern Lights through the weekend

This one will likely arrive by Saturday and may lead to more displays of the Northern Lights. Of note, this is also the strongest flare of the current solar cycle, and the strongest since 2017. The Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a Geomagnetic Storm Watch as G1-G3 storm conditions are likely to occur.
